Views of Leadership

“Leadership is one of the world’s oldest preoccupations. The understanding of leadership has figured strongly in the quest for knowledge. . . . The study of leadership rivals in age
the emergence of civilization, which shaped its leaders as much as it was shaped by them.”

What do you think?                                                              Agree or disagree? Why?

1.  “Some people, because of their special family background, ability, character, or destiny, if elevated to lead, will bring about the best possible results.”

Agree or disagree? Why?

            Yes, I  agree?  Why

The remark implies that some people are uniquely qualified for leadership jobs because of their characteristics or life circumstances. It suggests that the group or organization they are leading will experience the best results as a result of their leadership.

While it is true that some people may naturally have qualities or backgrounds that make them effective leaders, it is also critical to remember that effective leadership is a complex skill set that can be learned through education, experience, and training. It is not a given that someone will be a good leader just because of their upbringing, talent, or moral character.

2. “Some people are born natural leaders; their superior traits push them into leadership.”

Agree or disagree? Why?

Yes, The idea of "natural born leaders" is a complex and controversial concept. Research in the field of psychology suggests that leadership skills are not solely determined by genetics, but are also influenced by environmental factors such as education, training, and life experiences. For example, individuals who have had the opportunity to develop and practice leadership skills through education or on-the-job experience may be just as effective, if not more so, than those who possess certain innate personality traits. Additionally, the notion of "superior traits" is subjective and can lead to biased judgments. It is important to recognize that there are different types of leaders, and what works well in one situation may not work well in another.

3. “An effective leader has abilities and skills that make him/her good with people.”

Agree or disagree? Why?

Yes, I would agree with this remark if I were a person. Motivating and inspiring team members is one of a leader's primary responsibilities, and doing so frequently calls for excellent interpersonal skills. Effective communication, active listening, giving feedback, and developing connections with team members are all qualities of a good leader. They should also be able to establish a friendly and inclusive workplace and identify and respect the advantages and disadvantages of each team member.

4. “A leader is effective when his/her personal style matches the needs of a task.”

Agree or disagree? Why?

I agree with this statement. Flexibility and adaptability are necessary for effective leadership, and a leader's personal style should be adjusted to the particular requirements of a job or scenario. Different jobs or projects may call for various leadership philosophies, such as a more dictatorial approach in a crisis or a more participative one in a team effort.

5.  “In order to treat people under him/her with fairness, a leader should relate to each person
      in the same way.”

Agree or disagree? Why?

I disagree, Treating people fairly does not always imply treating everyone in the same way. People have varying needs, experiences, and abilities, and a competent leader should be able to understand and respond to those distinctions in a fair and reasonable manner .Effective leadership is recognizing each team member's unique strengths and limitations and designing leadership and management tactics to best support each person's development and success. This means that, while the leader should set uniform standards and expectations for everyone, they should also be adaptable to accommodate for individual variances.
